Prime Minister Virtually Inaugurates Three New Hostels at NITK Surathkal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated three new hostels of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal via an online event on Tuesday. The hostels, named Brahmagiri and Shiwalik for boys, and Godavari for girls, were built at a cost of Rs 132 crore.

The three hostels can accommodate a total of 1,530 students. Brahmagiri and Shiwalik can house 600 and 500 boys respectively, while Godavari can accommodate 430 girls.

In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized that India is making significant strides in the field of education and skills. He noted the recent establishment of several schools and universities aimed at providing quality education, fostering technology development, and promoting research.

In addition to the inauguration, the Prime Minister announced that Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for the Research Centre of Mangalore University.

B Ravi, the director of NITK, highlighted the institution’s commitment to offering development, knowledge, and quality education. He stated, “NITK, Surathkal, is in the second place among technical institutions in the country with good campus infrastructure. The campus stresses on education with an aim for development, new research, and eco-friendly initiatives”.

The event was attended virtually by several dignitaries, including Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan, Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for various infrastructure development works in the district, especially at NITK Surathkal.
