In a significant development for railway connectivity in Southern India, the Indian Railways has announced the diversion of several key express trains starting late June 2024. The move is aimed at improving travel efficiency and passenger convenience.
Starting from June 24, 2024, Train No. 11005 Dadar-Puducherry Express will be rerouted. The train, which currently connects the bustling city of Mumbai with the serene coastal town of Puducherry, will now travel via an alternative route encompassing Chikkabanwar, Yesvantpur Bypass, Lottegollahalli, and Bangarapet. This diversion will also introduce new stops at Chikkabanwar, SMVT Bengaluru, and Whitefield, providing passengers with more options to board or alight according to their convenience.
Following suit, Train No. 11006 Puducherry-Dadar Express will embark on its new route from June 25. The return journey promises the same enhanced accessibility with the additional stops.
Furthermore, the Dadar-Tirunelveli Express (Train No. 11021) will see its path diverted from June 25, and the Tirunelveli-Dadar Express (Train No. 11022) from June 27. These trains will now pass through Chikkabanwar, Yesvantpur Bypass, Lottegollahalli, and Bayyappanahalli. The revised route also includes new stoppages at Chikkabanwar and SMVT Bengaluru.
The Indian Railways’ decision to divert these trains comes as a strategic effort to decongest key junctions and provide smoother travel through lesser-known stations that are poised for development. The additional stops at Chikkabanwar and SMVT Bengaluru are particularly noteworthy, as they reflect the growing importance of Bengaluru’s satellite areas in the broader urban landscape.
Passengers are advised to take note of these changes and plan their journeys accordingly. The new routes are expected to not only reduce travel time but also offer more flexibility for travelers exploring the southern part of the country.
As the Indian Railways continues to innovate and improve its services, these changes mark another step towards a more connected and accessible India. Travelers can look forward to a more comfortable and convenient journey as they traverse the diverse landscapes of this vibrant region.
