Karnataka Deputy LoP Arvind Bellad Proposes Constitution Club for MLAs

Karnataka Deputy Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Arvind Bellad has emphasized the need for a Constitution Club in the state, similar to the one in Delhi. Speaking about the proposal, Bellad highlighted the lack of dedicated office spaces for MLAs to meet with constituents, discuss policy matters, and engage with subject experts.

“The Constitution Club is on the lines of the one in Delhi. MLAs don’t have an office to meet people or assemble to discuss issues concerning society. There is no place where we can call subject experts and discuss or meet people from our constituency. A place was required, and that is why this proposal was presented to the government,” said Bellad.

The proposal was raised by a ruling party member during a recent assembly session, prompting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to forward it to the finance department for review. However, Bellad also acknowledged the financial constraints the state is currently facing, questioning the priority of such an expense given the lack of development in Karnataka over the past 19 months.

“I agree that there is absolutely no development in the state. In the last 19 months, we have not received a single pie for development. Under these circumstances, this kind of expense can be put aside. Those expenses should be made which are the most required,” he stated.

The discussion around the Constitution Club has sparked a debate on resource allocation and governance priorities in Karnataka. The government’s decision on the matter remains to be seen.
