Karnataka BJP Seeks NIA Probe into Murder of Party Worker in Koppal

Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP leader Gali Janardhana Reddy has demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the brutal killing of a young party worker in Koppal. Speaking to reporters after meeting the Governor under the leadership of State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra, Reddy said the incident had shocked the party and the community.

The victim, 27-year-old Gavisiddappa, was a BJP worker and belonged to the Hindu Valmiki community. According to Reddy, he was attacked and murdered in the heart of Koppal city on the evening of August 3rd by a group of 8 to 10 individuals allegedly belonging to a Muslim gang. The BJP leader described the murder as “very brutal” and accused the authorities of failing to handle the investigation with consistency.

Reddy criticised the district police, claiming that the Superintendent of Police had been issuing contradictory statements about the case. “Every time, the SP releases different kinds of statements,” he alleged, suggesting that this inconsistency was undermining the investigation.

The BJP has already raised the issue in the state assembly, highlighting concerns over law and order and communal harmony. The delegation urged the Governor to recommend an NIA investigation, arguing that only a central probe could ensure impartiality, bring the culprits to justice, and uncover any larger conspiracy.

The incident has sparked political tension in Karnataka, with the BJP accusing the Congress-led state government of failing to protect its workers. The demand for an NIA inquiry is likely to intensify political debate in the coming days, especially as both parties position themselves ahead of future electoral battles.
