Bengaluru — Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra has hailed the recent decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s outgoing cabinet to conduct a nationwide caste census, calling it a “historic move” that has received widespread support across the country.
Speaking at a press event, Vijayendra said, “The last cabinet led by PM Modi has taken a historic decision to conduct a caste census in the country. The entire country has welcomed it.” He also took the opportunity to criticize the Congress leadership in Karnataka over the handling of caste-based data in the past.
Recalling the tenure of former CM Siddaramaiah, Vijayendra remarked, “In 2013, Siddaramaiah brought the Kantaraju report but did not accept it. Later, he ignored Jayaprakash Hegde’s report, which created confusion and strife between castes. Even Veerappa Moily did not agree with these reports.” He accused the Congress of politicizing the issue without taking concrete steps.
Vijayendra concluded by reaffirming the BJP’s support for the central initiative, stating, “We welcome the central government’s move to implement the caste census in an organized and transparent manner.”
