BJP MLA Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan has strongly condemned the Karnataka government’s resolution opposing amendments to the Waqf Board, calling it a move driven by “appeasement politics.” Narayan criticized the Congress-led state government for its stance in the assembly, alleging that it reflects a desire to avoid transparency and accountability.
In his statement, Narayan said, “We totally condemn the approach and the resolution taken by the state government, Congress government in the state of Karnataka on the floor of the house. It is nothing but appeasement politics.” He further accused the state government of attempting to shield the Waqf Board from scrutiny and accountability. “They don’t want anything to be clear or accountable. They don’t want to be answerable. They don’t want to be transparent. They just want to abuse and misuse whatever more power has been given to the Waqf board,” he added.
The BJP MLA’s comments come in response to the Karnataka government’s resolution, which opposes the Central Government’s proposed amendments to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, aimed at increasing transparency in the management of Waqf properties. The state government’s position has been a subject of controversy, with opposition leaders accusing the ruling Congress of appeasing specific vote banks rather than prioritizing the public interest.
Narayan’s remarks suggest that the BJP views the Waqf issue as a key battleground in the political discourse leading up to the 2026 Karnataka elections, where transparency and governance are expected to be major issues.
The controversy over Waqf properties, land acquisitions, and the management of religious assets continues to dominate political discussions in Karnataka, with both the BJP and Congress exchanging sharp criticisms over their differing positions. As the debate unfolds, the BJP plans to continue to challenge the Congress government’s stance, highlighting concerns over the lack of transparency and accountability.
