BENGALURU – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka staged a massive protest on Wednesday at Vidhana Soudha, accusing the Congress of being an ‘anti-national’ party. This accusation came after alleged pro-Pakistan slogans were raised by followers of Rajya Sabha member Syed Nasir Hussain following his victory on Tuesday.
The Congress, however, has refuted these claims, stating that the BJP is merely attempting to spread misinformation and create chaos within the state.
Senior BJP MLA from Karakala, Karakala Sunil, led the protest on Wednesday. Holding a national flag, he demanded that the Congress sack Hussain from the party. The protestors began their march towards Vidhana Soudha from the residence of the MLA, raising slogans against the Congress party, led by Siddaramaiah.
In response to the allegations, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that the videos broadcasted by local media channels have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis. “If the FSL report confirms that ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans are uttered in the video, there is no way that we are going to spare the culprits,” he said. He also accused the BJP of trying to create communal tensions even before the report is out.
The situation remains tense as both parties await the results of the FSL report. The incident has sparked a heated debate about nationalism and the freedom of speech in the political landscape of Karnataka.
