BENGALURU – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ushered in a new era for the Indian Railways with the groundbreaking ceremony for the redevelopment of 31 railway stations in the state. The initiative, part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, was launched on Monday via a video link.
The ceremony marked the beginning of a significant transformation for the Indian Railways, with the redevelopment of key stations including Malleshwaram, Krishnarajapuram, Kengeri, and Whitefield in Bengaluru. The event was celebrated at 19 locations across the Bengaluru division, reflecting the widespread impact of this initiative.
The main event, held at Whitefield Station, was attended by a host of dignitaries including Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, MP P.C. Mohan, Chief Commercial Manager Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Divisional Railway Manager Yogesh Mohan, and Senior Divisional Environment and Housekeeping Manager Priya.
In addition to the station redevelopment, the Prime Minister also inaugurated a road overbridge at Pottery Town, near Bengaluru East Railway Station, further enhancing the city’s transport infrastructure.
Governor Gehlot praised the Indian Railways for its rapid development over the past decade, highlighting its crucial role in the country’s economic growth. He also acknowledged the winners of a painting and essay competition themed around ‘New India of 2047’, commending their visionary ideas.
The Governor emphasized the importance of environmental conservation in his address. “The world’s environment is becoming unbalanced. It is our collective responsibility and duty to preserve it,” he said. He urged everyone to make efforts to prevent air and water pollution, conserve water, and protect forests.
The redevelopment of the railway stations and the inauguration of the over bridge are expected to bring significant benefits to the country’s economy, further strengthening the role of rail transport in India’s development journey.
