Over 980 Farmer Suicides in Karnataka: BJP Chief B.Y. Vijayendra Blames Congress Govt

BJP Karnataka State President B.Y. Vijayendra has expressed grave concern over the rising number of farmer suicides in the state, stating that more than 980 farmers have taken their own lives in recent months. He held the Congress-led state government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responsible for the crisis.

“It is very shocking that over 980 farmers have committed suicide in the last couple of months. The attitude of the Congress government and CM Siddaramaiah is very clear. The first thing he did upon assuming power was to stop the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana, which benefited over 52 lakh farmers with ₹4,000 each,” Vijayendra said.

He also criticized the Congress government for halting the Raita Vidya Nidhi scheme, initiated by former CM Basavaraj Bommai, aimed at supporting farmers’ children’s education.

Vijayendra alleged that the state government lacks proper planning and has failed to implement any meaningful programs for the agricultural community. “Neither the CM nor the Agriculture Minister has toured the state to understand the farmers’ condition,” he added.

The BJP leader demanded immediate action and policy reforms to prevent further farmer distress in Karnataka.
