Prime Minister Modi to Commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas and Inaugurate Shinkun La Tunnel Project

On the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay tribute to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War by visiting the Kargil War Memorial. The visit, scheduled for around 9:20 AM, will honor the courage and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 conflict.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed annually to remember the triumph of the Indian forces over the Pakistani troops in the Kargil sector, marking a defining moment in India’s military history. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the memorial will reflect the nation’s enduring respect and gratitude for the soldiers who defended the country’s borders with unparalleled bravery.

In conjunction with the commemoration, Prime Minister Modi will also virtually launch the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. The project involves constructing a 4.1 km long Twin-Tube tunnel at an altitude of approximately 15,800 feet on the Nimu – Padum – Darcha Road. Once completed, the Shinkun La Tunnel will be recognized as the highest tunnel globally, representing a significant feat in engineering and infrastructure.

The Shinkun La Tunnel is designed to enhance all-weather connectivity to Leh, significantly improving access to one of India’s most remote and strategically important regions. The tunnel will facilitate the efficient movement of military personnel and equipment, ensuring better logistical support for national defense.

Beyond its strategic importance, the tunnel is expected to drive economic and social development in Ladakh. Improved connectivity will support regional growth, boost tourism, and enhance overall quality of life for the local population.

Prime Minister Modi’s involvement in both the Kargil Vijay Diwas observance and the Shinkun La Tunnel Project underscores a dual commitment to honoring military heritage and advancing critical infrastructure. The day’s events highlight the intersection of remembrance and progress, showcasing India’s dedication to both its past and its future.
