BJP Leaders Demand Karnataka CM’s Resignation Over Valmiki Corporation Scam

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and legislators recently staged a protest at the Gandhi statue outside the Karnataka Vidhan Soudha. Their demand? The resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over alleged irregularities in two significant cases: the Maharishi Valmiki Development Corporation (MVDC) and the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

The Scams Unveiled

  1. Valmiki Corporation Scam (MVDC):
    • The first scandal revolves around the alleged misappropriation of funds within the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation (MVDC). This controversy led to the resignation of B. Nagendra, who was serving as the scheduled tribes welfare minister.
    • The BJP accuses the Congress-led government of sending hundreds of crores of rupees to other states to fund elections, implicating corruption within the MVDC.
  2. MUDA Scam:
    • The second scam unfolded in Siddaramaiah’s native Mysuru district. Here, the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) allotted sites to individuals who had surrendered land for layout development. However, the process was marred by irregularities.
    • Bogus beneficiaries received sites, while some who lost land were given alternative sites in prime areas of Mysuru. Notably, Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvati, is alleged to be one of the beneficiaries.
    • The BJP contends that the government’s handling of this situation has been questionable, with MUDA officials merely being transferred instead of suspended.

BJP’s Demands and Ongoing Protests

  • CBI Investigation: The BJP insists on a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into both the MVDC and MUDA scams.
  • Resignation Call: BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka and state president B. Y. Vijayendra, have called for Siddaramaiah’s resignation. They vow to continue their demonstrations until the cases are handed over to the CBI.

In the words of R. Ashoka, “We will protest inside the Houses of the state legislature until justice prevails. The CM should resign.” Meanwhile, Vijayendra highlights the Congress’s promise of corruption-free governance, which he believes has been shattered by these alleged scams.
