PM Modi Unveils Ambitious Infrastructure Projects in Mumbai to Boost Regional Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a significant stride in Mumbai, Maharashtra, by inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for a series of transformative infrastructure projects worth over Rs 29,400 crores. These initiatives, spanning across the road, railways, and ports sectors, aim to bolster connectivity and foster economic growth in the region.

Addressing a gathering of officials and stakeholders, PM Modi highlighted the strategic importance of the projects in enhancing transportation networks and facilitating smoother movement of goods and people. The cornerstone of these developments is the Thane Borivali Tunnel Project, an ambitious undertaking valued at Rs. 16,600 crores. Stretching 11.8 kilometers beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, this twin tube tunnel will create a crucial link between Western Express Highway at Borivali and Thane Ghodbander Road. It is projected to significantly reduce travel time between these points, offering commuters substantial time savings and alleviating traffic congestion.

Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, with an investment exceeding Rs. 6300 crore. The GMLR, spanning 6.65 kilometers, aims to connect Western Express Highway at Goregaon with Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, thereby enhancing intra-city connectivity and supporting economic activities. This initiative is poised to facilitate seamless transit within Mumbai and improve access to key economic hubs.

Further reinforcing the infrastructure development, PM Modi inaugurated the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling initiative focuses on optimizing rail operations by segregating long-distance and suburban train traffic, enhancing efficiency, and reducing congestion. Concurrently, the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal, spread over 32,600 square meters, is expected to emerge as a pivotal logistics hub, catering to diverse commodity handling and generating employment opportunities for local residents.

In a bid to enhance railway facilities, PM Modi dedicated upgraded infrastructure at key stations including Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The enhancements include new platforms and extended facilities to accommodate longer trains, thereby improving passenger comfort and operational efficiency.

Moreover, PM Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a forward-thinking initiative with an allocation of approximately Rs. 5600 crore. Aimed at empowering youth through skill enhancement and industry exposure, the program offers structured internships to equip them with relevant skills and prepare them for future job opportunities, thus contributing to reducing unemployment.

PM Modi’s comprehensive agenda during his Mumbai visit underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic prosperity, and youth empowerment. These transformative initiatives are poised to accelerate Maharashtra’s growth trajectory, fostering inclusive development and positioning the state as a leading economic powerhouse on the national stage.
