PM Modi Launches Mega Infrastructural Projects and Youth Empowerment Initiative in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a series of transformative infrastructural projects and a pioneering youth employment initiative during his visit to Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in bolstering connectivity and fostering economic growth across Maharashtra.

The highlight of PM Modi’s visit was the inauguration and foundation laying of projects worth a staggering Rs 29,400 crore, spanning crucial sectors such as roads, railways, and ports. Among the landmark projects launched was the Thane Borivali Tunnel Project, a monumental endeavor costing Rs. 16,600 crores. This ambitious twin tube tunnel, spanning 11.8 kilometers beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, aims to create a seamless link between Western Express Highway at Borivali and Thane Ghodbander Road. Anticipated to slash travel time between Thane and Borivali by up to 1 hour, the project promises significant convenience and efficiency gains for commuters.

Equally pivotal is the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, valued at over Rs. 6300 crore. Spanning 6.65 kilometers, the GMLR will establish crucial connectivity from Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. This strategic initiative is set to streamline transportation links, facilitating smoother access to the proposed new airport in Navi Mumbai and the Pune Mumbai Expressway, thus catalyzing regional economic growth.

In addition to these critical road projects, PM Modi initiated the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling, aimed at segregating long-distance and suburban train traffic, is expected to enhance operational efficiency and alleviate congestion, thereby optimizing rail operations. Meanwhile, the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal, covering an expansive area of 32,600 square meters, is poised to emerge as a pivotal hub for handling commodities such as cement, offering substantial employment opportunities for local residents.

The infrastructural revamp extended to Mumbai’s railway network, where PM Modi inaugurated new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended platforms 10 & 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. These enhancements will facilitate the accommodation of longer trains, bolstering passenger capacity and operational efficiency across Mumbai’s bustling rail network.

In a significant move towards empowering youth, PM Modi also launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a transformative initiative with an allocation of approximately Rs. 5600 crore. This pioneering scheme aims to combat unemployment by providing skill enhancement and industry exposure through internships for young individuals aged 18 to 30 years, thereby nurturing a skilled workforce and fostering economic growth.

PM Modi’s comprehensive agenda during his Mumbai visit underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, economic prosperity, and youth empowerment. These initiatives are poised to accelerate Maharashtra’s progress towards becoming a hub of economic dynamism and innovation, paving the way for a resilient and inclusive India on the global stage.
